MIHU is a program that offers affordable housing options in Howard County to eligible individuals and families. Howard County mandates a portion of newly constructed houses and apartments for MIHU, typically achieved by reducing home sale prices and lowering rent in participating communities.
It is a law in Howard County to provide affordable housing options to moderate-income individuals and families.
The number varies based on occupancy.
Annual income for qualified applicants cannot exceed $54,411 for an individual and $62,184 for couples for the calendar year 2024. Eligibility for the program is reviewed yearly.
The MIHU maximum monthly rent rate is limited to specific apartment sizes, specifically one bedroom, one bath at 818 sq. ft. and one bedroom, 1.5 Bath at 915 sq. ft. Howard County establishes the maximum monthly rent every year. For the 2024 calendar year, the monthly rent is $1,457 for each apartment.
The MIHU maximum monthly rent rate addresses the rental portion of LVMG’s monthly service fee, which includes rent, utilities and services provided to residents.
