November 13, 2018 – The parent organization of The Lutheran Village at MILLER’S GRANT in Ellicott City, Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster, has reorganized its business structure to create Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland, Inc. Carroll Lutheran Village has been serving older adults in Carroll County since 1980 and expanded into Howard County in 2016 with the opening of MILLER’S GRANT.
“We began working toward this reorganization several years ago prior to the opening of MILLER’S GRANT,” said President/CEO Geary Milliken. “As it was, from the very beginning, MILLER’S GRANT was a subsidiary of Carroll Lutheran Village. This new structure makes the two communities equals in the eyes of the Corporation.”

Day-to-day management of each senior living community will continue to be at the individual community level. Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland will provide management services and strategic vision, develop long-range strategic plans, forge relationships beneficial to both communities and promote operational efficiency for the entire organization.
“This reorganization will help us shared best practices to preserve the high quality of care and standards that have been established for both communities,” said Board of Trustees Chair Wanda Lynn. “It also lays a foundation for future strategic growth without burdening the two existing communities.”
“We have been working on this reorganization for several years. The process was intentional and diligent to make sure input was received from all stakeholder groups,” said Milliken. “Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland will advance the mission of both communities to serve seniors in an environment that promotes and accepts spirituality while giving each community the latitude to focus on its unique needs.”
