Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant had its first COVID-19 vaccination clinic on campus on Jan. 9, resulting in 107 individuals being vaccinated.

“Many of our residents and team members had been looking forward to the clinic, and it’s great to see such a large turnout,” stated Michelle Rosenheim, executive director of Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant. “Miller’s Grant has been and is continuing to diligently practice COVID-19 safety protocols, and this is another step towards making our community safer,” stated Rosenheim.

CVS administered the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to assisted living and the Health Care Center’s residents and team members, in accordance with the state’s distribution plan. Phase 1A of the state’s distribution plan includes vaccine distribution to residents and staff of long-term care facilities as well as health care workers and first responders.

Individuals received the vaccine in the muscle of the upper arm and were then monitored for 15 minutes. The two-dose vaccine is given three weeks apart. Miller’s Grant’s follow-up clinic is schedule for Saturday, Jan. 30.

Rosenheim stated, “Things went smoothly, from check in to getting the shot. Some individuals thought the injection was fairly painless.”

Based on evidence from clinical trials, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 95% effective at preventing laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 illness in people without evidence of previous infection. The vaccine is recommended for individuals 16 years and older.

Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant, a community of Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland, is an accredited, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community in Ellicott City, Md. serving over 350 residents in 241 homes and apartments, 20 assisted living suites and 12 skilled care beds.
